Chapter 11

I’m perfect? And what did he mean by worth it? In silence they slipped their clothes back on and made their way back into the warmth of the car. Julie knew Cade’s words had been thrown out in the heat of sex, but she didn’t feel perfect and if he meant she was worth waiting for... it was kinda sweet of him. Even though they really hadn’t known each other that long. She grinned. Well, he had been pretty much trying to get in her pants since day one. She shivered and flipped the heat on as Cade started the car.

“That was... pretty incredible,” Cade said as he reversed back onto the dirt road and headed for the highway.

“Mmm-hmm,” Julie murmured. Her body had enjoyed it, just her head seemed to be swirling in a tornado of confusion and guilt. Had she slept with him just to get back at Simon? Was she using Cade? Or did she really want this? She had no freakin’ clue what she wanted. She rested her head against the window and stared at the city lights that felt a million miles away. Home. Bed. On my own. Shit. “I know, it's bad of me to ask. Never mind; forget I said anything.” She continued getting out of the car.

Cade stopped her by putting his hand on her shoulder. “Hey, Jules, it's fine. You've probably got a lot going through your mind. This was, in my mind, the perfect night. I know we'll be seeing each other soon, and you need to have your space right now.”

“Thank you, Cade,” she said just before closing the car door, “Goodnight.”

She hurried up the walkway to her house and unlocked her door. She waited outside and waved at Cade as he drove away, a smile set on her face. The same one she used in the hospital—the one that didn’t give away anything she was feeling inside.

The moment she was inside and locked the door behind her, she practically burst into tears, albeit the kind of dry, heaving tears that still would not come. “Why can't I just cry this out and have it done with?” She leaned against the back of the door, lightly banging her head against the wood, wishing things were back to how there were before.

She sighed and
